Maths is used every day whether we realise it or not! For example, we check our change when out shopping, estimate the cost of a new carpet or decide what time we need to leave the house to get to the train station.
We help children develop their mathematical understanding in an enjoyable way and to prepare them for an adult, numerate life.
Great emphasis is placed on developing mental strategies to solve problems. Children are also taught to explain their thought processes and use mathematical vocabulary precisely. ICT is often used as a tool to enhance the teaching of maths. Calculators are introduced as important tools in KS2 and are used progressively as the children move through the school.
