Welcome To Kites!
Miss Foote is our class teacher and our lovely TAs are Mrs Kingston and Mrs McMullen.
PE is on a Thursday so please make sure that you have your PE kit in school. We also use the school field almost every day so a tracksuit and trainers/wellies to use on the field are essential.
Thank you for visiting our class page- we hope you enjoy looking at what we have been learning.
Whole School Beach Trip
Last week, the whole school travelled down to Weymouth beach. We played in the sea, jumped over waves, built sand castles, played football and buried each other - we even saw two jelly fish on the shore! It was a lovely day and all of the children enjoyed having their lunch by the sea and were all lucky enough to wash it down with an ice cream or slush puppy.
Thank you to the children, who were so impeccably behaved, we can't wait for the beach trip next year!
The Year Six children visited Bristol on their residential this year. They completed lots of different activities including: watching Fame, visiting Bristol Zoo, Clifton Suspension Bridge, SS Great Britain, Cinema, ZaZa Bazzar, We Are The Curious (programming robots) and paddling boarding.
The children had a fantastic time and were all very well behaved (and are now very tired)!
Congratulations to our Year Sixes, who have finished their SATs and writing moderation. I am so proud of how they have worked during this whole year. The progress that they have made has been fantastic. They should all be so proud of themselves and all that they have achieved.
Well done to the year four and fives for being so mature during this period and supporting their friends.
Spring Term 1
Welcome back to a short first half of the spring term. This term we are going to be reading our class book 'Holes' and writing non-chronological reports and diaries based from our understanding of the story. We are also learning about rivers around the world.
English- creating suspense
We have been working hard with Mrs White on our English unit of work based around the short film Francis. As part of this unit of work, we have written setting descriptions and started to experiment with how to create suspense. Mrs White was very impressed with the effort we put into improving our presentation and the exciting vocabulary choices we used in our setting descriptions.
Maths- Parabolic Curves
We have been creating parabolic curves. We had to be very accurate when drawing our quadrants and using the ruler. We hope you like the results of our efforts. Please have a look at our Parabolic Curve display outside our classroom.
Poetry Session With Louisa Adjoa Parker
We were lucky enough to be able to work with published poet Louisa Adjoa Parker who came to talk to us about identity and belonging. Louisa discussed her experiences of growing up in the South- West as a black child and the racism she experienced both in the past and today.
Louisa worked with the children to help them to explore their own identity and what makes them all unique and special. The children then wrote some beautiful poems about their lives, what is important to them and how they view themselves.
It was a great experience and we all learnt a lot about what we can do to be advocates for change and and promote tolerance and acceptance both in our social circle but also in the wider community.
Autumn Term 2 -
In Kites class this term out topic is 'Crime and Punishment'. We will be looking and all the variety of crimes people may have committed and comparing the different ways (even the gruesome) people were punished. We will be looking at local prisons as well as the tale of Alcatraz.
Kites Class have been carrying out some independent research in order to produce an information poster or leaflet on a natural disaster. Some of our favourite posters have been put on our display. Please have a look if you walk past!
The Kites have been enjoying learning Spanish with Mrs Kingston. They rounded off their last lesson with an enthusiastic rendition of' Heads, shoulders, knees and toes' in Spanish.
